Nationalism

I believe that blind nationalism and being a good global citizen are oftentimes mutually exclusive, particularly in today’s highly networked, global society. You can’t love thy neighbor, in a national sense, if you think you’re better than them.  Extreme and even moderate nationalistic thinking can also serve as a deterrent to improving one’s own community; it’s hard to place any value on making your society a better place to live today, when you already think it’s the best place on earth.

This will be my first of several posts about nationalism, which I consider to be something quite different than national pride. I’m in favor of the latter.
